  • Where is the justification that this is an emergency? The financial institutions haven't even tried to salvage the bad loans they made and minimize their losses and we're supposed to dash off a check for $700 BILLION to buy their known bad assets? This "crisis" has been looming for well over a year. We can take days or weeks to craft a bill with a much lower price tag that is acceptable to the taxpayers.

"any amounts provided in this Act shall not be counted for purposes of budget enforcement"
    WHAT? This is outrageous!!!

  • Certainly it is an "emergency" in that the government created mess has finally come to a head.

You have to realize the government only does anything when it becomes a crisis. (I worked for the federal government, unfortuntely, for 25 years and can tell you with all honesty this is the truth.) It creates the problems, ignores them for as long as possible, and then of course claims a "crisis" which can only be fixed by the government.

Too many government bureaucrats and workers benefit from the government-created problems so they have no incentive to do anything that solves the problems until they can't be kept under the rug any longer.
